Background

By 2070, at least four million Americans could find themselves at the fringes, living in climates or environments that have become incompatible with survival.

Black, Brown, Asian, and low-income Americans will likely have the hardest time adjusting (financially, resource-wise) to the onslaught of climate change and migration. These are the folks (very generally) that need the most support.

From Rising Sea Levels to Wildfires, Americans coast to coast people will be impacted by the effects of climate change, living in systems where support is inadequate.

Insight

Climate change displacement is a reality that affects many Americans. However, there are two distinct groups: those who have been displaced by climate change, and those who are aware of climate change but have not personally experienced its effects, including displacement.

Vantage Point shares real-time stories of climate emergencies to support those affected, one narrative at a time. Live Prototype.

Anatomy of the solution

Key Audience:

Emerging Climate Change Refugees: People who have or are currently experiencing climate change displacement who would like to share their experiences and possibly get the help they need.

The Climate Observer: These are informed observers of climate change however they are not aware that climate change displacement is happening closer to home. When informed, they are ready to help out in the best way possible.

FOCUS: Story Post Feature

On the homepage, I created a story post scroll to allow folks to find up-to-date climate stories and information.

Focus: Live Reports

Showcase live reports of people directly affected by ongoing climate/weather emergencies.


Each color code represents the different statuses a climate migrant may face.

I designed the map mimicking a live radio station similar to NTS Live Radio.


Features of this design is the inclusion of red signals, allowing users to hear live reports from folks currently experience climate displacement.

The Climate Stories Section allow former or current climate migrants to share their stories.


In addition this section allows folks who are now becoming informed about the climate migrant experiences to directly connect climate migrants in need of support.


Each story features a giving circle "NEEDS" section to help migrants get resources they need.

As climate change continues to impact communities around the world and in our backyard.
